Welcome to the Fort Lauderdale website for the Women’s Wellness Society!

My name is Debbie Wysocki.  I’m a 45 year old mom with two wonderful children—Trent who is 8 and Amanda who is 5.  I’m lucky enough to be the Room Mommy for them at Calvary Christian Academy .  I’m married to Mark, a Commercial Real Estate attorney in Fort Lauderdale .

It was 20 years ago that I realized doctors might not know everything.  That was after I saw the well respected Lakers Basketball Team Doctor operate on my boyfriend 7 times to attempt to correct a knee injury.  After the second time I suggested he might want to look elsewhere.  That ‘saga’ is what triggered my interest in alternative medicine and preventative health and my ultimate path down the road to a Health and Wellness Educator.

I learned very early in life that everything had a cost—in other words—pay now or pay later.  It’s that way with health too.

My own personal lesson came hard.  By the age of 23 I was the Executive Assistant to the CEO of the Times Mirror Company.  When I looked around on the ‘Executive Floor,’ all the other women were 55 or older—what a wake up call.  I decided to go back to school and finish my degree.  I became I financial analyst and worked in Beverly Hills for almost 11 years—but 12-14 hour days 6-7 days a week can take a toll on a person’s body—and after 10 years, I found myself a very new bride, getting ready to move from California to Florida, and VERY, VERY, sick.  The diagnosis was Fibromyalgia—I was disabled to the point of no longer being able to work.

The 15+ doctors I consulted wanted to pump me full of medication.  I literally spent more than $10,000 out of pocket not covered on our insurance in my quest for wellness.  This included both traditional and complimentary medicine.

Thank goodness I found solutions and now educate people about health and wellness.

When Kellie saw one of my cards about a seminar I was hosting, she called me and asked me to attend the first meeting of the Women’s Wellness Society.   I was hesitant to say the least, but after 15 minutes in the room with like-minded women, I was so glad I had hired a sitter and cleared my packed calendar.  And each meeting got better.  And then they opened up another chapter.  BUT, they didn’t have one in Ft. Lauderdale , that’s when I decided to throw my hat in the ring and asked my good friend Amanda Haley to join me and co-chair the Ft. Lauderdale chapter.

Our goal for the Ft. Lauderdale chapter is to bring you timely topics that will educate and enhance your daily lives.  As women we have so many demands placed on us.  So, once a month, join us at Lily’s Tea Room (at the southeast corner of Oakland Park and Federal) for good food and fellowship and a dynamic speaker.  You will meet wonderful women and have a few hours that will be just for you.

I’m Amanda Haley and the co-chair of the Ft. Lauderdale Chapter.  I’m a 26 year old native Floridian who loves sailing, roller blading and many other outdoor activities, as well as serving at my church.  I also enjoy natural food cooking and baking bread from whole grains.

The joy of my life are my two boys, Anthony who is 3 years old and Tyler who  just turned one (both were birthed naturally in the water—that’s a story for another time).   I’m married to a wonderful man, Michael who is an awesome chiropractor, and we’ve been married for 7 years.  We live in East Pompano.

I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 1997 and in private practice for the past five years.  My specialty is Aromatherapy, and various other massage modalities.

When Debbie told me about the Women’s Wellness Society, I was intrigued.

The Women’s Wellness Society has a very alluring title in itself.  Women searching for wellness... aren't  we all?

To sit and chat with women who have knowledge and experience in all different fields of wellness treatments is what originally attracted my attention.  We can learn from other's experiences and also hear about new technologies - what a great idea!

I wanted to be part of a group of women who could support and uplift each other in our search for better health, emotions, and beauty.  Being alternatively minded, this was right in line with my search.

The Women’s Wellness Society can help people find the things that are hard to find all alone.  I remember how long and hard I searched for an affordable store to find organic food - now I can share that knowledge with others.  I know how hard it can be to choose a good doctor or midwife for childbirth.  Now I know what the choices are and what I would choose.  All this information should be shared with other women.  As a massage therapist, making people feel better is my livelihood.  I love my job because of the benefits of helping others.  This Society will help me empower other women to inform and help themselves.
